Medium wave reception in Kazan

Below is a table of medium wave stations that are more or less regularly heard at my location in Kazan, Russia. It's known that distant reception in this band is only possible during the periods of darkness and dusk. All times are UTC.

The table stores my personal observations for the season of autumn 2002 spring 2003 (from 531 to 603 kHz only). See bandscan data of current season here.

Usage of asterisks: *0500 denotes start of transmission, 2200* denotes end of transmission. Transmitter locations are given in parentheses. Double slash (//) refers to a parallel (usually a stronger one) frequency.

531 kHz
  • Local broadcasts from Cheboksary, Russia:
    Mo     0310-0400, 0910-1000, 1410-1500, 1510-1600

At 2227 Mayak audio is switched off; tone signals are heard instead. But this lasts only three minutes at 2230 Mayak is restored.
